The Process of Arranging a Funeral
Few, if any of us, spare very much thought to the arrangements of a family member’s funeral until the unfortunate time when necessity dictates that we must. The simple fact is that funerals are not something any of us really wishes to have to consider too much. However this means that when the time comes to face the burial arrangements, between lack of preparation and the weight of grief, we don’t know how or where to begin.
Whether you wish to lay your loved one to rest at Fourways Memorial or elsewhere, you will need to prepare yourself with knowledge of the necessary arrangements. For this reason we have provided the following guide in an attempt to make this difficult time slightly easier.
Information Required for Arrangements
In order to begin with the burial preparations you will need to gather the following information about the deceased:
- Will
- Organ donation documents (if available)
- Guardianship of children (if younger than 21)
- Choice of burial or cremation
- Payment options: cash, policy or burial scheme
Undertaker
For the correct arrangements of a funeral you will need to produce the following documents for your undertaker:
- The ID of the deceased, or a copy thereof
- ID of the next of kin
- Funeral policy
- Marriage certificate
- Photo of the deceased for the front page of the hymn sheet
- Clothes in which the family wish the deceased to be buried
Also please contact your undertaker for the arrangement of the burial or cremation services. See our burial and cremation sections for details on the services offered at Fourways Memorial.
Other Considerations for Funeral Arrangements
If you are to arrange your loved one’s funeral the following are some other considerations to take into account:
- Removal of body
- Coffins
- Printing of hymn sheets
- Placing of ad in news paper
- Cremation of the body
- Death certificates
